You will be held to account for any eventuality - MCE's 'warning' to KK Sarpong
The Offinso Municipal Assembly's Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Kingsley Owusu-Appaih, issued a warning on a factional procession in light of the current chieftaincy disputes in the region.
The MCE office wrote to Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong on March 14, 2024. It was claimed that the ousted queen mother of Offinso had nominated Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong as Offinsomanhene, or Paramount Chief of Offinso.
After being detooled in January 2024, Nana Ama Serwah Nyarko remained silent. However, on March 13, 2024, a letter allegedly on her letterhead surfaced on social media, stating that KK Sarpong had been appointed as Offinsomanhene.
She had proposed Sarpong, the former head of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), to be the next Offinsomanhene, according to the letter submitted to the MCE.
However, the MCE's letter, which was specifically addressed to KK Sarpong, mentioned that the Council was requesting that the preparations for a familiarization tour of several areas of Offinso be delayed.
"The Council would like to suggest that your organization reverse your decision and put the program on hold indefinitely.
"Please, if you fail to comply with this directive, you will be held responsible should there be any eventuality," it said.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, made the decision to depose the queen mother after she nominated KK Sarpong as paramount chief on multiple occasions and disregarded Otumfuo's advice to bring a more deserving candidate because Sarpong was not a royal.
Indigenous people who supported KK Sarpong staged protests last week, and he was seen in a video being paid respects by several participants. Manhyia has not yet responded to the events.
